The ideal Assistant Carpenter would assist the lead carpenter, carpenters, and laborers onsite following the hand-off from sales and pre-construction. Ideal candidates are dynamic, flexible, hardworking, and knowledgeable of the construction field. Additionally, the Assistant Carpenter should maintain an inventory of power tools and equipment and must understand how to properly use them.


Responsibilities:

  • PROJECT HAND-OFF + PRE-CONSTRUCTION
  • Review the project with the lead carpenter to get a general understanding of the project.
  • Pick up and/or deliver material(s) needed for the start of construction.
  • Mobilize and protect the job site, including floor, wall, and opening protection.
  • CONSTRUCTION
  • Ability to take and follow directions from the lead carpenter and crew as needed per project.
  • Maintain an operational inventory of necessary tools, safety equipment, and vehicles.
  • Ability to accurately read architectural drawings and plans.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and complete manual labor as needed per project.
  • Ability to properly install construction materials including, but not limited to, framing lumber, doors, and windows, siding (cedar claps, vinyl siding, hardie board, cedar shingles, etc.), hardwood flooring, laminate, interior trim and millwork, sheetrock walls and skim coating, cabinetry, etc.
  • Make necessary material runs as needed per project as directed by the lead carpenter.
  • Properly demobilize and clean up at the end of each project.

Qualification:

  • Minimum of 1 year of carpentry or related field experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year working with construction power tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Preferred degree in construction management or similar field
  • Professionalism, including appearance, expert workmanship, and polite communication when interacting with clients.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally to clients, vendors, subcontractors, architects, and teammates.
  • Ability to stay self-motivated and organized to push the project along schedule.
  • Ability to work well with different personalities.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible while working onsite.
  • Strong critical thinking skills are required.
  • Previous construction knowledge is required.
  • Ability to complete manual labor, lift heavy objects, and read architectural plans are required.
